Merry Christmas sons of bitches!

Merry Christmas all. I hope you all get the cinema related gifts you wanted!

The following are my three favourite Christmas films, based largely on a criteria of nostalgia. I’ll probably dust off my respective VHS copies of each film this year rather than watch The Shawshank Redemption on TV again.

1. It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)

Of course. It’s your favourite too. People who aren’t affected by this film are made of granite.

2. The Snowman (1982)

Based on the story by Raymond Briggs The Snowman is a beautiful tale with a devastating bittersweet ending. In someways it’s so sad I can only bear to see it once a year at Christmas.

3. Home Alone (1990) & Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) (Double feature)

I’ve never told you this. Home Alone 1 & 2 were my favourite films when I was ten and at one stage I could actually recite every single line of dialogue in both films. The best line: “I’d rather kiss a toilet seat!” Before you snigger remember John Hughes wrote these films and John Hughes is the same man who gave you Judd Nelson in fingerless gloves. Also Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern as hapless burglars, and John Heard as Macauley Culkin’s Dad! Don’t even get me started on the scenes with Tim Curry as the Hotel guy. Two undeniable masterpieces.

Merry Christmas friends.

    1. Merry Christmas to you too! Home Alone just played on terrestrial television here in New Zealand which was exciting for me. Hopefully a whole new generation of kids can appreciate its brilliance! Take care.
